One of the firm’s main practice areas is the preparation of applications of European and German patents, utility models, trademarks and designs and the handling of the respective application proceedings until the grant and registration thereof. Currently more than 750 German, European and international patent applications as well as approximately 300 German and European trademark applications are being filed per year by Beetz & Partner with national and international patent authorities.
In addition, we also specialise in the defence and enforcement of our clients’ immaterial rights against competitors as well as the defence of attacks by third parties. The partners in our practice have long-standing expertise in successfully representing our clients in patent litigation proceedings including opposition proceedings, actions for annulment and actions for infringement.
In the field of trademark law the expertise of the firm covers both opposition proceedings before the authorities and cancellation and infringement proceedings before the civil courts. Furthermore, we draw up legal opinions relating to infringement or legal validity of patents as well as licensing, know-how or research and development contracts and take on negotiations with the contract partners of our clients. In the field of employees’ inventions law we support companies in the implementation of appropriate structures for handling formal legal requirements and individual inventors in ascertaining and obtaining a suitable remuneration for their invention.
Our patent portfolio consultancy entails detailed analysis and evaluation of the current patent status and the market position of the company as well as planning and implementation of future strategies for placing patent applications. Additional services provided include database searches by our searchers for prior art documents or status surveys of competitors’ registered IP rights.
